Residents Traders Complain: Problem of Loadshedding Persists Despite Energy Saving Plan

(April 28 2010): Chief Collectorate of Customs (North) has so far achieved 90 percent of its total revenue target set for the current fiscal year by the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR). Chief Collector Customs, North Region, Umar Farooq told APP here on Tuesday. “Through good governance and team work of all the six collectorate of customs in Punjab and Khyber Pukhtoonkhwa provinces, I am hopeful of not only achieving the annual revenue target but surpass it.”

He said that the overall performance of all collectorate was being monitored fortnightly through a computerised network in terms of collection of revenue. He said that customs officials had been directed strictly to facilitate taxpayers and respect them. He said all genuine grievances of the tax payers were being redressed on the spot and officials who created unnecessary hitches in smooth payment of taxes were taken to task.

He said special complaint cells one each at collectorate level had been established for the convenience of taxpayers. He said for the first time on the special directive of the FBR Chief, problems being confronted by taxpayers were being addressed promptly in a dignified manner even at large taxpayers units across the country under one widow facility.

Later, talking to a delegation of trade leaders headed by VP Saarc Chamber of Commerce and Industry Pakistan chapter Iftikhar Ali Malik, Customs Chief Umar Farooq said that Collectors and Additional Collectors had been directed to visit chambers of commerce and industries regularly in their respective jurisdictions to brief the business community about FBR policies and seek their co-operation in timely tax collection.

He assured Iftikhar Ali Malik, who is also Co-chairman of Businessman Panel, the largest alliance of chambers in Pakistan and former federation president, that an all-out effort was being made on war-footing not to only streamline but simplify the procedure of revenue collection.
